The Course...
This course begins April 23rd 2011 and meets monthly for one year, finishing in April 2012. We will explore Shamanism as a healing modality and our personal and communal commitment to bringing the Healing Charism into our planet in these times of great change and evolving growth. This program is open to those who are serious about their desire to be a healing influence in the world today.
1. The Basics of Shamanism
This class begins the year-long exploration of Shamanism, and teaches basic journeying techniques, This session is required for all participants of the Year Long Program. The purpose of this class is to ensure that all participants are “on the same page”, as well as to begin to build the team that will be exploring shamanic healing over the year. Participants will learn and enhance their basic journeying skills as well as meet their power animals and guides.
2. Working with Spirit
Participants will gain a deeper awareness of the role of their guides, teachers, power animals and Helping Spirits. We will meet the guides who will partner with us in this year-long work and learn how to receive their guidance. We will also explore healing of self and others, and become grounded in the understanding and ethics of shamanic work. journeying to the Upper, Middle and Lower worlds will be explored in depth and participants will learn how to remain confident and safe when journeying to and through these realms.
3. The Heart of the Shaman
Participants explore the concept of Compassion and how this relates to shamanic practice. This experiential class prepares the student to further his or her understanding of shamanism as a way of life and healing presence in the world.
4. Transfigurative Healing
We explore the process of Transfiguration as taught by Sandra Ingerman in her work: Medicine for the Earth. Participants can experience the healing potential of transfiguration as a healing practice and learn how to incorporate that into their own healing practices.
5. Tools for the Journey
In this session, we explore some of the "tools" we use in our spiritual practice of Shamanism. Participants have the opportunity to create some of these tools and understand the significance of these sacred objects.
6. The Inner World of the Shaman
Through exploration, we gain an awareness of the importance of our "inner world" and of doing the inner work as an integral part of shamanic practice. As we focus on healing, we acknowledge the healing of self, as well as others.
7. The Outer World of the Shaman
In this class we move our awareness to the world around us and explore what it is to "be" in this time of great change. Participants explore the times we are in and gain an awareness of how we can impact in a positive way the Great Shift that is occurring at this time.
8. Healing Toxic Thoughts
We explore the energy of thoughts and how this energy affects the environment within and around us. Based on "How to Heal Toxic Thoughts" by Sandra Ingerman, participants gain an understanding of how, as practitioners of shamanism, we are moved to regard the patterns of thought we use and are used to.
9. 2012 - Ending? or New Beginning...
We explore the current teaching about 2012 and experientially recognize our role in the Great Shift. We see 2012 from a shamanic perspective and through ritual, contribute to the healing trend of this coming year.
10. Shamanic Retreat
This three-day retreat will offer participants the opportunity to be in nature as we explore our relationship with the elements.
11. Coming Together
In this last class of the series, we will explore the past year and deepen the growth and awakening we have experienced. Through ceremony and ritual, we will honor and celebrate ourselves as the shamanic healers we have become.
Participants will set the dates for the year-long course during the first meeting in April 2011

About Karen...
Karens home is in western Arizona. Her love of Spirit and devotion to the healing charism of
Jesus has led her into the way of alternative healing through Shamanism and Reiki. For her
there is no separation of the realities of seen and unseen, and her work as a healer and
teacher is rooted in the belief that it is not what we "do" that heals, but what we allow
ourselves to become. As Jesus taught, the realm of the Divine is within each of us and it is
there that we can access the infinite compassion of Mystery. It does not matter what tradition
we are immersed in, but that we encounter that Mystery and Spirit within.
Karen holds a Masters degree in Social Work and has devoted much of her life to working with
those who have experienced economic poverty, as well as abuse, addictions, homelessness
and trauma. As a Shamanic teacher and healer and Reiki Master Teacher, Karen understands
wellness from a perspective of balancing essential power. Her path as a teacher has led her
throughout the United States and Europe.
Karen is a former member of the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor. As a former Catholic sister, she
walks the path of the mystic and healer, seeking to integrate the healing of self, community
and Earth. She is aware that it is in bringing Light into the world that healing and wholeness
can happen. She is excited about the emerging paradigm of Oneness and welcomes the
challenge and movement of this evolution of Spirit.
